The Strategic Air and Space Museum is an impressive-looking building, with a modern design that makes it look like a giant spaceship that has landed in the middle of Nebraska. The museum was founded in 1959 when the Strategic Air Command moved from Colorado Springs to Ashland, Nebraska. The museum grew over the years and in 1998 moved to its current location in a modern facility. A few years later, the name was changed to the Strategic Air and Space Museum. The museum now includes over 350 aircraft and missiles, a dozen aircraft cockpits, and a huge range of other technology. Also on site is a planetarium, which is always packed out for the seasonal astronomy shows. The best time to go is during the summer months when the sky is clear and the stars are bright. If you’re a night-time astronomer, it’s great to go during the summer because the stars are so bright that they’re visible almost all year round.
